5 Steps to Getting UNSTUCK

Updated: Mar 9, 2021

Everything has changed! It's been over a year since the pandemic showed up in our world. Everything has changed since then. So many people have lost their jobs, their homes, the lives they had known and loved. For some people, life has improved drastically. For others, it has been a deep dive into a pit of unknowns.

NOW WHAT?

So, you've grown accustomed to your new normal. You've pivoted until you're dizzy. The thing is you still don't know where you're supposed to be or how you're supposed to get there. You did everything you were supposed to do. You went to school, earned a degree, landed a good paying job, bought a house, and started your family. Then pandemic hits! Now what?

The job that you have been working is no longer available. The company has decided to change course or “pivot”. All of this has left you possibly without a job, on the brink of losing your home, and you wondering how in the world you're ever going to retire. You thought that you had security but that's all gone now.

Now you're looking at starting your own business or freelancing because job security isn't what it used to be. One of the biggest things that is brought up to me when starting a business, is the fear of failing. I challenge you to see that there was never job security before or through this pandemic. I don't mean that to sound harsh but it's just reality, your reality.

Where do you go from here? There are a few things that you can do to make a big difference in your life. You've had time this last year to consider whether or not you even like your job, if you're doing what you enjoy doing, whether your job is worth going back to, if that is even an option, and what's most important to you.

Here are five things to get you started. It's time to become unstuck.

Take the time to write things down. Now that you've had time to think about everything, it's time to write it down. Answer these questions and you’ll have more clarity on a direction to start with.

1. What's most important to you?

Stop and think about that for a moment. Is family more important to you? is a career that you love more important to you? Is it more important to you to make a difference in this world , to leave a legacy? Take some time to write these things down and reflect on them.

2. What do you love doing?

Have you ever really stopped and thought about what you really enjoyed doing? Do you love writing, spreadsheets, traveling, helping others, or mentoring the next generation? take a few minutes to write down things that you love doing. Don't think about it , just write it down. Don't think about what others might think about what you write.

3. What are you good at?

You’ve spent time being trained and gaining experience throughout your life. You have a wide set of skills. Write down everything that you can think of that you're good at. You may even ask others what they think you're good at. Some of their answers may even surprise you.

4. What can you get paid for doing?

Now write down the skills that you can be paid for. This list may include some items from the things that you love doing, or what you are good at. In fact, it might be better if some of those things are on those lists too. Don't judge, don't allow others to judge you, just write down everything you can possibly think of.

5. What do you think the world needs?

For me personally, I have found it important to make a difference in this world. I challenge each of my clients to consider how they can change the world in a positive way. You may find that there are things that you love doing or that you have skills in that fit into this list too. It is OK to have things on all of these lists.

Once you have written all this down, walk away and let it sit for a couple of days. After a couple of days, come back and take a look at your list. Is there anything you want to add to that list? Are there things that you'd like to change on the list?

Is this enough to help you to get unstuck?

Do you see the common things in each list? Do you have a direction to go now that you can see everything written out? If not, and you need more help with business coaching, send me an email to debra@thelifeimliving.com and we will schedule a Clarity Session to help you move forward. Sometimes it takes someone else looking at things from a different perspective.
